 Hard of Hearing Symbol

I SEE WHAT YOU’RE SAYING”

 Isee

Sight Impaired people are internationally easily recognised by the “carrying” of the white cane. This means the general public have an immediate understanding of their disability and can react appropriately. Lions were instrumental in the adoption of this sign in the 1930s.

Hearing Impaired people have no easily recognisable aid and so people do not immediately make any compensation in their communications with them.

Lions have now produced a badge that we believe will help hearing-impaired individuals who se lip reading as their main means of understanding speech.
The basic outline is an eye. The pupil is the sympathetic hearing sign, (internationally recognised), and the top eyelash says “I SEE WHAT YOU’RE SAYING”; a skill all deaf people have, to various degrees. The basic colour is yellow, and the important message is in blue. These colours have been chosen because they make it more easily readable for everyone. We have made them magnetic fastening so that they do not pull or damage clothing.

If you or someone you know could use this badge contact your local Lions Club or Multiple District Speech and Hearing Officer, Lions Clubs International MD105 HQ, 257 Alcester Road South, Kinds Heath, Birmingham, B14 6DT
