AIMS

To give people with reduced vision (for whatever reason) the means of making the most of their remaining sight.

A service provided by the team work of:

The Hospital Eye Service
(Orthoptist and Optometrist)

WHAT IS A LOW VISION AID (LVA)?

It is an optical aid (usually a magnifier) which enhances residual vision.

Just as vision may be reduced for a number of different reasons, each visual problem requires its own management.

Whilst some people will want to choose their own LVA’s, others will want or need advice, so the service is designed to cater for the needs of all clients.

HOW DO I GET ACCESS TO THE SERVICE?

Referral to the service is via your GP and then the Consultant Ophthalmologist (eye doctor) at your local hospital.

WHO WILL I SEE?

The Optometrist will carry out a full assessment.  Based on her findings, and your individual needs, she will be able to advise you on the type of LVA likely to be of help.

A further hospital visit (about 6 weeks after the initial assessment) is arranged with the Orthoptist.  This gives you a further opportunity to discuss any problems that you may have with your LVA and, where necessary, to exchange or replace it.

THIS IS YOUR SERVICE

If you have any questions or comments we are here to listen and to help.
