Home from Hospital Scheme – British Red Cross, Home from Hospital Office, c/o Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

Mytton Oak Road, Shrewsbury, Tel: 01743 261083, Tel: 01952 287107.  The British Red Cross Home from Hospital service supports patients and their carers in the immediate post discharge period by providing practical care and support for anything up to 6 weeks.  The scheme usually operates as part of a planned discharge, with the patient being referred by staff from either Health or Social Services.  The Service operates for a 12 mile radius from the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.  A similar scheme operates at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.

EQUIPMENT

The Disability Living Centre is an independent service providing advice, information and also assessments of need for equipment provision on behalf of Shropshire Social Care and Health Directorate, Shropshire county Primary Care Trust and any individual interested party.  You can refer yourself to the DLC for an assessment with an occupational therapist.

The British Red Cross provides a medical equipment loan service - provides a short term loan of wheelchairs and commodes.  Items can be borrowed locally and are arranged through Shrewsbury.  This service is run on a donation basis.  Tel: 01743 351348.
